17. Lutes Gretna Green Wedding Chapel

This little chapel is a part of some rich history in Yuma. Yuma used to be a huge wedding destination, with more than 30,000 couples married between 1928 and 1956. This little town became filled with “quickie” wedding chapels due to its close proximity to southern California. In 1927, California’s “gin marriage” law - which required couples to wait 3 days after receiving their marriage license before tying the knot, brought this huge influx of couples looking to begin their marital bliss. In 1941, R.H. Lutes opened this little chapel, which held more than 200 ceremonies a week! So, if you love history and you’re not looking to have a large number of guests, this might be your place!
